Tonight at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona, California, Carroll Shelby and Co. unveiled what is by far the most radical Mustang ever built for the street. Named after Don "The Snake" Prudhomme, who drove a top fuel car for Shelby in the 1968 season, the new Shelby features a 750 horsepower (over 800 on race fuel) version of the GT500's 5.4-liter V8 thanks to an upgraded Kenne Bell supercharger. Other modifications include a custom fiberglass full tilt front end, a Shelby rear drag wing, eight-point roll cage, six-piston front brakes, rear seat delete, coilover springs, custom Bogart wheels, and much more. Despite the Shelby GT500KR's claim of supremacy over the dominion that is the open road, there is yet another Mustang that is even more extreme. Shelby's Super Snake package for the GT500 offers up to 725 horsepower and even more aggressive options for the suspension and braking systems. Available as a post-sale conversion for the GT500, the transformation can be performed at the Shelby facility in Las Vegas or at one of the official mod shops around the country. There have been a handful of owners who have already converted their GT500s, and one is already for sale on eBay. Something seems wrong with the seller's math, however, because a "Buy It Now" price of $200,000 is far more than the cost of a GT500 plus the $31,995 needed for the 725 horsepower conversion. We could understand the markup if these were in high demand, but pretty much any GT500 owner can send his car to get converted.

You might be asking the same question that we are. Why isn't this thing at Barrett-Jackson? With the auction less than a week away, this car would have been the perfect candidate for an over-zealous buyer to pay way too much for a classic muscle car. Only one Shelby GT500 SuperSnake was ever built, so it's even more rare than the Shelby Cobra SuperSnake that sold for $5 million at Barrett-Jackson last year. Shelby built twice as many of those! Still, it doesn't make the $3 million Buy It Now price sound any less ridiculous. Cool features of this truly-and-honestly one-of-a-kind car include a 427ci V8 with 520 horsepower, a 170 mph top speed and unique triple stripes.
